Case Study - People Strategy
Client Need
A health care organisation was seeking to build a performance
driven culture around their mission and values. After a series
of exploratory discussions, CompAssess was engaged to help
develop and implement a strategy for aligning the culture
with business imperatives.
CompAssess Solution
CompAssess developed a highly consultative process for defining the behaviours required by
different roles grouped under job families and organisational levels. This "top led bottom
up" process enabled the client to ensure that the specific capabilities and associated
behaviours were aligned against the values and strategic imperatives of the organisation while
permitting much feedback and consultation to achieve the necessary commitment and buy-in.
The resultant organisation-wide capability profile accurately captured the behaviours in
different job families or at different organisation levels that would 'operationalise' the mission
and values.
CompAssess then worked with the client to re-engineer the
key people management systems to support the desired capabilities.
Based on considerations of urgency and impact, recruitment
and selection processes and performance management approaches
were targeted.
All frontline and middle managers participated in a number
of custom-designed workshops designed to impart the skills
required to communicate the importance and relevance of the
capability framework to individual contributors as well as
how to manage performance against the capabilities.
Outcome
Survey feedback demonstrated a high degree of buy-in and
commitment across all organisational levels and business units
to the newly developed capability framework and people management
systems.
The capstone of this was a commendation from the board of
the organisation that the business was prepared for impending
organic and inorganic growth by having the necessary people
strategies and systems in place.
Also, almost every individual in the organisation has evaluated
their development gaps against the relevant capability profiles
with the assistance of their manager, and is actively working
to individual development plans aligned against the mission
critical capabilities.
